Nick Thompson is currently in his second season as an assistant coach for the men’s soccer program in 2020.

His first season as a member of the coaching staff saw the Wildcats win the 2019 America East Co-Regular Season championship and the America East Tournament championship. UNH posted a 1-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats concluded the 2019 season with a 15-2-3 (.825) record, posting the best winning percentage in program history and tying the school record for wins.

UNH only allowed 11 goals all year and posted the best team goals against average in the nation (0.528). UNH was ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Poll every week except the first week reaching a season-best No. 13 ranking. UNH concluded the year ranked No. 17 in the RPI and No. 22 by United Soccer Coaches. 

Thompson was a member of a coaching staff that was named the Northeast Region Staff of the Year and the America East Staff of the Year.

Thompson spent the 2018 season as an assistant coach at Williams College as the Ephs made their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in five seasons. Thompson was also an assistant coach at Gordon College, Navy, NC State and California Baptist, while he spent one season as head coach of Eastern Nazarene College.
 
A 2011 graduate from Messiah College as a Sport Management major, Thompson won three Division III three national championships as a player making 99 career appearances with 54 goals and 18 assists for 126 points. He was an All-American and was named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year. Thompson began his professional playing career with the Carolina Railhawks of the North American Soccer League. He continued his professional career most recently playing two seasons with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL.
